Description
Sloppy Joes II is a bold and hearty American classic made with seasoned ground beef, sweet-tangy tomato sauce, and soft buns. Perfect for family dinners, it delivers nostalgic comfort with every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ground beef (90/10 lean)
- 2 cups ketchup
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional: chopped tomatoes, green chilies, Worcestershire sauce, prepared mustard
- Hamburger buns, for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Break it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Drain excess grease if needed. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and any optional ingredients like Worcestershire sauce or green chilies. Stir to combine.
- Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and flavors meld.
- Toast hamburger buns if desired. Spoon sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and serve immediately.
Notes
Serve with classic sides like coleslaw, potato salad, or mac and cheese. For variation, substitute ground turkey or lentils for a leaner or vegetarian version. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for 3–4 days or can be frozen up to 3 months.
